It means we don’t take shortcuts. We hand-cut every timber frame the traditional way — with mortise and tenon joinery and wooden pegs — the same methods that have kept New England barns standing for centuries. No metal plates. No temporary construction. Just solid, honest craftsmanship that will outlast all of us with a little care along the way.

My mom had a Maytag washer in the 1970s. You could throw a bag of cement in it and it would still be running thirty years later. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

Formerly The Old Lyme Barn Company, we expanded beyond our hometown and became Connecticut River Barn Co. The name better reflects the wider area we serve and the lasting work we do. Our priority has never changed: traditional timber framing done right.

What’s different about our barns

Most builders will quote you a price that looks good — until you find out the foundation isn’t included. We include it.

Pricing starts at $225 per square foot and covers:

• A fully designed, hand-cut pine frame with traditional joinery

• Foundation (excavation and short wall, assuming normal conditions)

• Permits

• 30-year architectural shingles

• Andersen windows and pine shiplap siding

You get a clear number up front and a barn built to last.

I’m Bob. After years in construction and a lifelong pull toward traditional timber framing, I started this company with my two sons, Tyler and Jeff. We still do the cutting, the fitting, and the raising ourselves. When you call, you’re talking to the people who will actually build your barn.
